Leave and remote work

This page explains how to request leave and how remote work operates. It summarizes POL-HR-001 (Leave) and POL-HR-004 (Remote Work). The policies are the source of truth.

Leave entitlements

Under POL-HR-001 version 2 (effective 2026-01-01):

  • Annual leave is 22 days a year.
  • You may carry over a maximum of 5 days.
  • Sick leave is 10 days a year.
  • Parental leave is 16 weeks.

Earlier, under version 1 (effective 2024-01-01), annual leave was 18 days and carry-over was limited to 3 days. Version 1 is superseded and no longer applies.

How to request annual leave

  1. Check your team's calendar and any customer milestone dates, see Status reporting.
  2. Submit the request in the HR portal at least two weeks ahead for periods of more than 5 days.
  3. Your manager approves or declines within 3 working days.
  4. Update your calendar and set an out-of-office message.

If you are on a customer project, tell your project manager (for example Henry Brandt or Maya Torres) before you book.

Sick leave

Tell your manager as early as you can on the first day of sickness. For absences longer than 3 working days, contact HR. Carol Nakamura can advise on how to proceed.

Remote work

POL-HR-004 allows up to 3 days a week of remote work. Core hours are 10:00 to 15:00 in your local time, so you should be reachable then. Remote work does not change the hours you work; it changes where.

Rule Detail
Maximum remote days 3 per week
Core hours 10:00 to 15:00 local time
Equipment Company laptop only, see Laptop setup
Connection Use the VPN when accessing internal systems

Some customer contracts restrict where work may be performed. For example, Orion Energy requires that its data stay in the US; check the Orion Energy page before working from outside the US.

Working from another country

Working abroad can have tax and legal consequences. Ask HR before you do so. Temporary work from another country is not allowed without written approval.

Public holidays

Public holidays are separate from annual leave. See Company holidays 2026.
